Sabudana Na Gota (Vrat Special) Recipe - साबूदाना के गोटे (व्रत स्पेशल) रेसिपी - Priya R - Magic of Indian Rasoi
Sabudana Na Gota is delicious recipe made from sago during hindu religious fasts which are observed during Mahashivratri, Shravan, Navratri, Janmashtami, etc. It is made by soaking sago in curd & water overnight  or for 6-8 hours & then potatoes & other spices are added to make gotas (balls) which are then deep fried & served. During fasts only certain foods are consumed & so this recipe makes use of those only. They are also called Sabudana vada. Do try it this festival season!

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup sago (sabudana)
1/4 cup fresh curd
1/3+1/4 cup water
1/3 cup coarsely ground unsalted peanuts
1 medium sized boiled & mashed potato
1 tbsp green chillies & ginger paste
1/2 tbsp sesame seeds (til)
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/4 tsp coarsely ground black pepper
1/4 tsp coarsely ground fennel seeds (sauf)
Salt to taste
Oil for frying & greasing

SERVES: Serves 2-3 peoples (makes 16-17 medium sized gotas/balls) 
PREPARATION TIME: 12 Min
COOKING TIME: 10 Min
TOTAL TIME: 22 Min
* 1 CUP = 237 ML

METHOD:

1. Soak sago (sabudana) mixed with fresh curd & water in a covered bowl for 6-7 hours or overnight.
2. Pulse sabudana mixture for 30-60 sec in mixer grinder to coarsely grind it.
3. Take out sabudana mixture in a bowl.
4. Put coarsely ground unsalted peanuts, boiled & mashed potato, green chillies & ginger paste, sesame seeds (til), cumin seeds (jeera), coarsely ground black pepper, coarsely ground fennel seeds (sauf), salt & mix well.
5. Using palms greased with oil prepare small ball shapes (gota) out of mixture.
6. Heat oil for frying & then lower flame.
7. Put sabudana gota in oil in batch of 7-8 & fry on med-high flame.
8. Stir intermittently & fry till golden colour.
9. Once done take out sabudana gota on a paper napkin.
10. Fry remaining sabudana gota in same way.
11. Serve hot with curd or chutney.

TIP:

1. One batch of sabudana gota takes 3-4 min to fry.
