Amla ki Goli - Gooseberry Candy Recipe - अमला की गोली - अमला का गटा गट - Priya R - Magic of Indian Rasoi

Amla Ki Goli is a tangy and spicy candies made from Indian Gooseberries. They are good for digestion and used as paachak Goli. Being rich in vitamin c amlas are good for health too and ideal to eat in winters. These candies are very easy to make at home and young and old alike will enjoy it. Do try it this winters while the amlas are available!

INGREDIENTS:

250gm or 9-10 medium sized indian gooseberry/amla
300 ml water approx
150gm or 1 cup jaggery - roughly chopped
¼ tsp carom seeds
1 tsp roasted cumin powder
¼ tsp asafoetida
½ tsp dry ginger powder
½ tsp black pepper powder
1 tbsp dry mango powder
½ tsp black salt
½ tsp salt
2 tbsp powdered sugar
Ghee for greasing

SERVES: Approx 188g Amla ki Goli
PREPARATION TIME: 5 min
COOKING TIME: 15 min
TOTAL TIME: 20 min
* 1 CUP = 240 ML

METHOD:

  1. Wash amla 2-3 times in water and take it in pressure cooker. 
  2. Add 1 glass water and cook on high flame for 2 whistles. Allow the pressure to release on its own. 
  3. Drain the water completely and allow amla to cool down. 
  4. Using knife cut into pieces and discard the seeds. 
  5. Grind amla in mixer grinder to a smooth paste. 
  6. Heat a non-stick pan and add amla paste to it. 
  7. Add jaggery and cook for 3-4 mins on medium to slow flame till jaggery melts and half of the moisture evaporates. Keep stirring frequently. 
  8. Add carom seeds, roasted cumin powder, asafoetida, dry ginger powder, black pepper powder, dry mango powder, black salt & salt. Mix well. 
  9. Cook this mixture for 2-3 min more till leaves the pan sides. 
  10. Remove it in a bowl and allow it cool completely. 
  11. Grease palms with some ghee and make small golis or balls from this mixture.
  12. Coat the balls with powdered sugar. 
  13. Allow it to set for 30 min. 
  14. Store at room temperature for 10-15 days or in fridge for 6 months.
  15. Delicious Amla Goli or Gata Gat is ready to enjoy!
