Mixed Dal Vada in Appam Patra Recipe - मिक्स्ड दाल वादा अप्पम पत्र में  रेसिपी - Priya R - Magic of Indian Rasoi

Mixed Dal Vada in Appam Patra (Appam Pan) is a very easy recipe using very little oil without affecting the taste of final product. Dalwada is a famous tea time snack made especially during the rains. Here we have made this recipe using split chickpeas, split yellow lentils & split black gram lentils along with spices. For making Dalwada, lentils are soaked and then coarsely grounded together and then spices are added and then small fritters / vadas are made using hand or spoon. Dalwada are served hot with onions, deep fried cut green chillies and chutney.

INGREDIENTS:

1/4 cup chana daal (split chickpeas)
1/4 cup moong ki dal (split yellow lentils)
1/4 cup urad dal (split black gram lentils)
3-4 garlic cloves (optional)
1 inch piece ginger
2 green chillies roughly chopped
1/4 cup + 1/8 cup water
1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
1/4 tsp black pepper powder
1/8 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
1 tbsp oil + for greasing
1/8 tsp baking soda (eating soda)
2 tbsp chopped green coriander leaves

SERVES: 22-24 pieces of Mixed Dal Vadas 
PREPARATION TIME: 20 Mins
COOKING TIME: 20 Mins
TOTAL TIME: 40 Mins
* 1 CUP = 240 ML

METHOD:

1. Soak chana daal (split chickpeas), moong ki dal (split mung bean) & urad dal (black gram lentils) in lots of water for 6-8 hours.
2. After 6-8 hours, drain water completely from daal. 
3. Transfer daal in mixer grinder jar. 
4. Add garlic cloves, ginger & green. Place the lid on & using water grind to a smooth paste.
5. Check the mixture it should be grounded to smooth paste. 
6. Transfer this mixture into a bowl.
7. Add asafoetida (hing), black pepper powder, turmeric powder, oil, baking soda  & salt to taste. 
8. Whisk batter for 2-3 mins with hand whisker for soft & fluffy texture. 
9. Add 2 tbsp chopped green coriander leaves & mix well. Mix Dal Vada batter is ready. 
10. Now heat Apam Patra on low flame. Grease it well with oil. 
11. Fill each cavity with about 1 tbsp dal mixture. 
12. Drizzle little bit oil on top as well.
13. Keep flame low, cover & cook for 3-4 mins. 
14. After 3-4 mins, turn 1 vada, if its golden brown then flip all the vadas.  At this stage you can switch off flame for 2 mins to prevent vadas from burning. 
15. After flipping, turn on the flame on low. 
16. Cover & cook on other side on low flame for 3-4 mins. 
17. Check after 3-4 mins, vadas are golden brown in color & are ready. 
18. Remove Mixed Dal vadas using a spoon from the mould. 
19. Prepare vadas from the remaining batter in the same way. 
20. Healthy Mixed Dal Vada is ready! No compromise with taste. Serve with ketchup or green chutney!
